• This means all Years 9 -13 students will be sent home at the end of period 3 – 12.30pm.

• Year 1 to 8 will remain at school as normal till 3.10pm.

Please note; only the caregivers can physically sign out any Years 1-8 students early.

On Monday 24th June, our students were transported into the exciting world of Duffy Theatre!

This term鈥檚 show followed Duffy and Scruffy as they learned Uncle Ben had to move to Australia for work. To stay connected, they start a book club and write letters to each other. But when the letters suddenly stop and Uncle Ben goes missing, Scruffy sets out to solve the mystery!

Filled with superhero adventures, furry friends and plenty of laughs, this story showed us how reading, imagination and staying connected can help save the day.

Faafetai i le alofa o le Atua 鈥� we give all glory to God for a successful celebration of Vaiaso o le Gagana Samoa at 91影视. It has been a week filled with pride, purpose and powerful expressions of our Gagana and Aganuu.

We officially launched Samoan Language Week on Tuesday with a beautiful Ava Ceremony, led by our Years 12鈥�13 Gagana Samoa students, followed by the Years 5鈥�8 Samoan School Speech Competition… A truly powerful reminder that our language is alive and thriving here at SCC.

The festivities continued with our Years 9鈥�13 鈥淪CC鈥檚 Samoa鈥檚 Got Talent鈥� showcase, where students shared their incredible gifts and creativity. Congratulations to our winners; the 鈥淚A FA鈥� Band and 鈥淟overs Duet鈥�who graced our assembly with their winning performances.

Wednesday offered students a true Taste of Samoa with Koko Alaisa and Panikeke Fa鈥榠, bringing both flavour and warmth to the day. Workshop activities deepened the cultural learning, including a session exploring our 4R Values through a Samoan lens.

Students also engaged in siva Samoa (dance), lalaga (weaving), ula loles, ribbon ula making and the crafting of traditional accessories; a hands-on celebration that connected hearts and hands to heritage.

On Thursday, our College assembly highlighted the significance of protecting and preserving Gagana Samoa, featuring vibrant performances by Gagana Samoa classes, prefects and talent quest winners, including an original composition by our Year 13 students.

This was followed by our Junior School assembly, which included presentations of the speech winners, finished by show-stopping performances from both students and parents.

A special congratulations to our twelve Years 5鈥�8 students who proudly represented SCC at the F.A.G.A.S.A Aukilani Tauvaga Tautalaga held at the Fale Samoa. Each of our speech contestants spoke exceptionally well as they delivered their speech with pride and conviction on the theme: “Ia malu lou s膩. Folau i lagim膩 鈥� A well-grounded self, is a successful self”.

We wrapped up the week with a beautiful shared lunch; a celebration of food, fellowship and the strengthening of relationships. Faafetai tele lava to our Junior School Samoan Parents Komiti, Samoan teachers and all staff for your tireless support and contributions.

On Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st May 2025, our Year 5鈥�6 students had the exciting opportunity to participate in the Blake NZ-VR programme. Each class experienced a 30-minute virtual reality (VR) session exploring the topic: 鈥淭hreats to our Moana.鈥�

Through immersive underwater footage, students learned about;

• marine habitats

• food webs

• marine reserves

• pollution

• overfishing and the importance of kaitiakitanga (guardianship).

This experience deepened their understanding of the challenges facing our oceans, how human activity impacts our marine ecosystems and the crucial role we all play in protecting them.

This unique learning opportunity supports our wider sustainability focus and sparked meaningful discussions in class.

“If we stop dumping chemicals and rubbish in the ocean, we will be good kaitiaki of the moana and the sealife will thrive. I learnt that the snapper and crayfish are also guardians of the seaweed because they can crack open the tough kina shell and eat them. This is important because kinas are pests that eat lots of seaweed and fish rely heavily on seaweed to survive.”
